Settlement Services

When you arrive in Nova Scotia, you may find that you need help finding a job, learning the English or French language, having documents translated. Or you may need an interpreter to help you make sense of everything, or just to meet some new Canadian or immigrant friends.

In Nova Scotia, there are a number of non-profit agencies that provide services to newcomers to Nova Scotia.

Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association (MISA) is a community-based organization which welcomes newcomers and recognizes their essential role in Canada. MISA offers a full range of programs for immigrants. From providing orientation for immigrant entrepreneurs wishing to start a business, to meeting with government leaders to discuss immigration issues - it is all part of MISA’s commitment to supporting newcomers.

YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs helps immigrants settle into their new homes in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and to help residents understand the issues newcomers face while adjusting to their new language, culture, climate and community.
