Hospitals and Clinics

The following is a list of hospitals and health centres servicing the Metro Halifax region. These hospitals are a part of the Capital District Health Authority.

Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre is the largest health science centre in the Maritimes. The QEII provides many different health programs and services such as:

The following information outlines what services are available at each of the QEII hospital locations.

Halifax Infirmary is home to the only adult emergency department in Halifax. It also has many of the day clinics.

Abbie J Lane Memorial is the main centre for mental health programs and services. It houses the Eating Disorders Clinic, Psychiatry Research Clinic and the Mental Health Day Treatment Clinic.

Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building is the home of 175 veterans who suffer from old age health concerns that limit their ability to care for themselves. The Centre for Care of the Elderly is also located in the Veterans Memorial Building, along with other geriatric and long term care related services.

Centennial and Victoria General Hospital has many patient and outpatient units. It is also the location of the eye care centre, cancer treatment, and general medicine units.

IWK Grace Health Centre The Isaac Walton Killam Hospital attends to the health of women, children and families from across the Maritimes. The hospital’s medical and dental staff specialize in the areas of:

The IWK Grace hospital is known to be one of the best maternity hospitals in Canada. Most women from Halifax and the surrounding areas go there to give birth.

Dartmouth General Hospital has both in and out patient, and emergency services. It also operates the Diabetes Education Centre.

Cobequid Community Health Centre is an emergency medical centre and a walk in clinic for people with less serious emergency medical needs. The centre also has blood clinics and other testing procedures.
