Settlement Program Funding
The goals of the province’s Immigration Strategy, released in January 26, 2005, are to increase our retention rate from 40 per cent to 70 per cent for the 2006-2011 census period, and more than double the number of immigrants to Nova Scotia by 2010.
Successfully integrating immigrant families is the first priority in the strategy, so immigrants are more likely to succeed and stay in our province. The Immigration Settlement Program Funding is designed to facilitate settlement of immigrants in Nova Scotia with the ultimate goal of successful integration and long-term residency in the province.
Therefore, the Immigration Settlement Program Funding is to support non-profit community organizations or other public or non-governmental organizations (e.g., public educational institution, regional development authority, etc.), which provide services for immigrants to meet this first priority of increasing retention, by providing necessary settlement and integration services and supports.
